  • SPService plug — under rear seat (gen1) or behind rear seat trim (gen2)

Schematic zones only — front/mid/rear are approximate. Verify exact locations against the OEM Emergency Response Guide.

First 10 minutes — pre-flight

Before you touch the vehicle. Run this once for every inbound EV or hybrid.

  1. Park downwind, on level ground

If the pack is in thermal runaway it will vent flammable + toxic gas. Stay upwind. Block wheels.

  2. PPE on: HV-rated gloves, safety glasses, no jewelry

Class 0 (1000V) rubber insulating gloves with leather over-protectors are the floor for any HV work.

  3. Walk-around: damage scan + signs of pack compromise

Coolant pooling, white smoke/vapor, hissing, bulging panels, exposed orange cables, or chemical smell = stop. Treat as live and call OEM hotline.

  4. Confirm the vehicle is this card (year, make, model)

Pack location and disable procedure differ between generations. Use the distinguishing visual to be sure.

  5. Locate your fire suppression and first-aid kit before starting

Water is the only effective agent on Li-ion. Dry chemical, foam, and CO₂ will not stop a runaway. Have ≥250 gallons accessible.

HV Disable

  1. Primary
Turn power switch OFF, then disconnect 12V battery negative (-) terminal under hood and insulate with tape

Power switch in cabin; 12V battery negative terminal under hood

  2. Backup
Remove orange high-voltage service (disconnect) plug

Under the rear seat floor — lift rear seat cushion, remove access trim cover, rotate green locking tab and pull plug out

Note
After HV system shut-down, wait at least 10 minutes for full discharge of HV capacitors (drops below 60V at 5 minutes per Nissan ERG). Carry the removed service plug on your person to prevent re-installation. Cover service-plug socket with insulated tape immediately. Pack itself remains energized at HV even after service plug is pulled — never contact pack internals.

12V battery & SRS

12V location: Under hood (engine compartment), lead-acid battery

Charged from HV pack via DC/DC converter inside the PDM. Disconnect negative (-) terminal AFTER turning power switch OFF. Pretensioners/airbag capacitors remain charged ~3 minutes after 12V disconnect.

discharge: wait 180s after airbag deployment before touching SRS components.

Pack & no-cut zones

Pack location: Undercarriage, floor-mounted beneath passenger compartment (encased in steel)

Pack chemistry: Lithium-ion (laminated pouch cells; 48 modules in 2011-2019, 24 modules in 2022+ e+ revision)

cable color:Orange

Do not cut:

  • HV battery pack footprint (entire undercarriage / floor pan beneath passenger compartment)
  • Orange high-voltage cables (under hood and along undercarriage)
  • Service plug and access trim cover (rear seat floor)
  • Airbag inflators (front impact modules, side-impact seat modules, curtain inflators)
  • Seatbelt pretensioner units (front seat anchors)
  • Air-bag control unit (ACU) — center console area

Reinforcement (UHSS):

  • B-pillars (lower, contains rear satellite sensors)
  • C-pillars (contains rear satellite sensors)
  • Rocker panels

Pack piercing risk: HV pack is encased in steel and mounted under the floor pan. Any undercarriage tool, forklift tine, or floor-pan breach can pierce the pack and trigger thermal runaway or electrolyte leak. Treat the entire underbody beneath the rear-seat-to-front-footwell region as no-pierce.

Isolate damaged vehicle 50 ft from exposures.
